Watchmen/Superman Crossover Announced

Watchmen/Superman Crossover Announced

DC Comics head honcho Geoff Johns just announced his first return to comics after the DC Universe Rebirth #1 special, which ushered in the new status quo of the DC universe. That's not all it did though, as it also hinted at a crossover between the regular DC superhero universe and the Watchmen, which are a DC property that so far has existed outside the normal DC worlds. This is going to come to the forefront in the mini series Superman/Dr. Manhattan crossover Doomsday Clock.

John's tweeted out this:
Everything I have done in comics has led to #DoomsdayClock @1moreGaryFrank @DCComics

According to blastr.com this will be a standalone story with no crossovers or one-shots attached, which promises a very streamlined and easy to follow story.

While a lot of different heroes will appear, the focus will be on Superman and Dr. Manhattan, who will represent optimism/hope and cynicism respectively.

Johns also revealed this about the story in the interview with blastr.com, when he was asked if this functions as a sequel to the original Watchmen:

"It is something else. It is Watchmen colliding with the DC Universe. It is the most personal and most epic, utterly mind-bending project I have ever worked on in my career. With Rebirth, I opened the door to Manhattan. Part of that was I loved the real-world influence Watchmen has. I put Manhattan out there, and always thought there was a Manhattan/Superman story to be told, but then ... it grew. And grew. It took my heart and soul over. Still, at the core of it, there’s a being who has lost his humanity, and distanced himself from it, and an alien who embodies humanity more than most humans. I love the idea that Watchmen influenced DC, but what would that look like in reverse? And it goes well beyond that."

Sounds great to me and as a huge DC fan this truly could be a dream come true. I just hope they won't paint the Watchmen characters as all out bad guys, since I feel that wouldn't do justice to their original portrayal as very real world influenced personalities.
Doomsday Clock starts in November!

X-Men TV Series Gifted Trailer

After the success of the first X-Men related TV show Legion on Fox' FX network, we will get a second TV show set in the mutant corner of the Marvel universe later this year.
Called Gifted, the show centers on a family that finds out their kids have the mutant gene and to protect them from the government they have to go on the run, where they will meet up with characters from the X-Men comics like Blink and Thunderbird.
So far I am not sure if I am gonna watch it (with how many superhero related shows being on air now even a hardcore comics fan has to make decisions), but I am excited about them mentioning the X-Men and the Brotherhood in the trailer and not knowing if they still exist or not. Seems like an interesting angle to take.

Alan Silvestri Talks Avengers Infinity War

Composer Alan Silvestri talked a little bit to Variety about his career and the next movie he will score, namely Avengers Infinity War, on the red carpet of the BMI Film, TV and Visual Awards.

“I did my first film in 1972, so it’s been 45 years. I never thought I would do this. I’m really looking at tonight as a chance to publicly thank a small group of people who have been so instrumental in my being here. I’m still interested in music. I’m still smitten by the development of technology in our business, and what it has provided in terms of possibilities to find new sounds and new ways to bring organized musical content to our work. I’m still enthusiastic. All the elements of film composing are still fascinating and motivating for me.”

When asked about Avengers Infinity War the composer had this little tidbit to say, after disclosing the fact that he had already seen plenty of footage:

“It’s everything we could have hoped for.”

Sounds great to me!

James Gunn Talks Almost Saying No To Guardians vol.3

James Gunn Talks Almost Saying No To Guardians vol.3

(SPOILERS AHEAD) James Gunn delivered not one, but two amazingly funny movies with the first two Guardians of the Galaxy films! We recently heard him confirm his involvement with the third installment as well, but as he recently revealed to his fans during a Facebook Q&A he wasn't that sure about returning again initially, which had to do with a certain thing happening in Guardians of the Galaxy vol.2:

'Let me tell you, there was nothing harder for me than the choice to kill Yondu in this movie. Michael Rooker, for all the crap I give him, is one of my closest friends in the world and the last thing I wanted to do was to make a movie without Michael Rooker in the future. I almost didn’t do Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 because there was no Michael Rooker in it and I couldn’t see making the movie without him. He means that much to me and I love him that much. And it was the hardest choice I’ve ever had to make from a storytelling perspective to choose to have Yondu die. I wrote a bunch of treatments where Yondu did not die.

There were other endings — he was saved at the last minute after taking the sacrificial stance, and I wrote many drafts like that. And I realized I was being dishonest. That was not what this story was. For me, the most important thing in making a movie is to tell the truest and most honest story possible, and that’s whether you’re making a $500,000 indie film or a $200 million dollar spectacle film.

And the truth of this story, this was about a father’s true and ultimate love for his son. This is a movie about, Who really are our fathers? Who really are our siblings? And the only way for it to be an honest story was for Yondu to die, and anything else would have been half measures, and would have been me backing out because I was afraid to tell the truth. And so that’s why Yondu dies.

I really enjoyed Guardians vol.2, maybe even more that the first film, so I am glad he decided to return to the franchise. Can't wait to see the Guardians again in next years Infinity War!

Supergirl Season 2 Finale Will Include Cat and Clark

Supergirl Season 2 Finale Will Include Cat and Clark

Producer Andrew Kreisberg talked to EW about the season final of Supergirl, which will bring back to fan favorite characters of the show... namely Superman and Cat Grant!

I don’t want to tease too much about how they return because both Superman’s return and Cat’s return are great surprises; how it happens, you’ll be shocked at both of their appearances. This is Kara’s darkest hour. It’s perfect that she has both Superman and Cat, who are these great stabilizing influences in her life — Cat, who tends to have a good handle on what Kara needs, and Clark has a pretty good handle on what Supergirl needs. She needs them both desperately because she’s faced with some truly awful decisions to make in the finale and choices that affect her both as Kara and as Supergirl. Having her surrogate mother and surrogate brother there to make these decisions, it’s good to have them there.

While I enjoyed most of Supergirl's second season, I have yet to catch up on the last 5 or so episodes. Hearing that Superman will return, makes me excited again, I have to admit!
